Obituary of Robert J. Lobus
Age 77, passed away peacefully at home, on Sunday, September 22, 2024. Bob was born and raised in Allentown PA. Bob was the youngest of three children born to the late John and Mary (Yarema) Lobus. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by brother Raymond Lobus and sister Joan McDonald. Bob is survived by his loving wife Mary; daughter and son-in-law Stacie and Andrew Mallow of Pine City with their children Madalyn and Peyton Mallow; sisters-in-law, Carol Lobus and Ann Savacool; several nieces and nephews.
After high school, Bob went on to Mansfield University where he earned his undergraduate degree in education. While at Mansfield he was an active member of Sigma Tau Gamma fraternity. He later earned his master’s degree from Elmira College. It was also at Mansfield where he and Mary began dating. They had known each other since childhood with Mary growing up just down the block from Bob. They were married in Allentown in 1970. During his last year at Mansfield, Bob did his student teaching at Ernie Davis School. Upon graduation from Mansfield, he took a job as an 8th grade Social Studies teacher at Broadway Middle School. It was a job Bob loved for 33 years until his retirement. He was an active member of Fur, Fin and Feather, Elmira Elks Club #62, Pine City Sportsman’s Club, and Whitetail Buck Hunters Association. Bob had many hobbies including, photography, camping, hunting, fishing, skeet and trap, archery, golf, and woodworking.
Family and friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W. Water St., Elmira, on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Bob will be laid to rest at St. Mary’s Ukrainian Orthodox Cemetery in Allentown PA. Those wishing may remember Bob with a donation to the Chemung County Humane Society and SPCA, 2435 State Route 352, Elmira NY, 14903.
