Obituary of Cindy K. Davis

Cindy Kay Davis, age 73, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend passed away peacefully at home on March 27, 2024, surrounded by her children, Timothy Davis and Kristine Hall. She is now cradled in the arms of Jesus, joining her parents Lyle and Betty Edwards, and the love of her life, Daniel Davis, who preceded her in death.

Born in the quaint town of Blossburg, PA, Cindy was the second child and only daughter among three brothers. Growing up, she was often found lost in the pages of a good book, her imagination taking flight as she delved into worlds of wonder and adventure. Cindy took her school studies seriously, and academics came naturally to her. Her life took a turn when she crossed paths with Danny at a lively barn dance during her high school years. From that moment on, they were inseparable and were married in the summer of 1969.  

Cindy cherished the role of motherhood with all her heart. While her family was young, she seamlessly juggled a full-time job with the joys of nurturing her children. But Cindy's dedication didn't stop there; in addition to her bustling work and motherhood responsibilities, she attended night classes at Mansfield University and devoted late hours to coursework.

In the late 70s, Cindy and Dan participated in the Fresh Air Fund based out of New York City. This initiative provided inner-city children with the invaluable opportunity to spend summers in the serene landscapes of rural parts of the Northeast. Cindy and Dan generously opened their hearts and home to Ronald, warmly welcoming him into their family for many summers. To Cindy, Ronald was not a guest but a beloved member of the Davis family, and she cherished their summers together.

 Her passion for nurturing extended beyond her own family and into education, where she found purpose as a special education teacher at Liberty Elementary School. Her dedication and compassion left a mark on the lives of her students and colleagues alike.

Later, her innate compassion would show as she ventured into opening a personal care home. There, she poured her heart into caring for numerous elderly individuals, all while maintaining her teaching career, managing the household, and delighting in the precious moments with her newborn granddaughter.

 Cindy enjoyed spending her summers by the water. In the early 2000s, Cindy and Dan purchased a cabin nestled on their very own lake in Quebec, Canada. This retreat, devoid of any modern amenities, offered something much more precious: the opportunity to connect with nature and create cherished memories with their family. During the summer, Cindy eagerly retreated to this tranquil haven with her grandchildren in tow. Days were filled with endless adventures, from hiking through the woods, crafting works of art, casting lines into the sparkling water for a day of fishing, or a relaxing boat ride. Cindy’s grandchildren will carry these memories with them for a lifetime.

In 2004, Cindy and Danny made the decision to move closer to their grandchildren, a testament to the importance of family in Cindy's life. Cindy would go on to serve as the Director of Special Services for Athens Area School District. Here, she fought tirelessly for the rights and well-being of her students while offering support for her teachers. Her retirement in 2013 marked the beginning of a new chapter, filled with travels, moments with family, and the joy of homeschooling her grandson.

Cindy was a woman of unwavering faith. Throughout her cancer diagnosis and treatment, Cindy stood firm in her beliefs, trusting in the presence and guidance of her Savior, Jesus Christ. Cindy often assured her family with gentle confidence, “I am not afraid because I walk with Jesus.” Her faith was not just a passive belief but a living, breathing presence in her life. Through her example Cindy instilled in her loved ones deep and abiding love for Jesus, encouraging them to walk more intimately with Him each day.

In many ways, Cindy lived a life that mirrored that of Jesus Himself– a life of boundless compassion, humble service, and selflessness. Her actions spoke volumes, reflecting the love and grace of Jesus in every interaction.

Cindy leaves behind a legacy of love and compassion that will continue to resonate through the lives of her grandchildren: Marley Kay Hall, Johnny Hall, Davis Hall, and Annabella Hall and Zach (Ellen) Ameigh, as well as her brothers: Jim (Connie) Edwards, Dave Edwards, and Fred (Susan) Edwards, and special people in her life: Major John E. Mansuy, USAF, Ret., Elizabeth Hall, Isabella Noviello, Sandy Isakov, Ronald Harry, Carrie Fisher, Lila Fisher, Tessa Fisher, Col, John L Mansay, USAF, Ret., Kaitlyn Mansuy, Ian Mansuy. 

In the words of Abraham Lincoln, “In the end, it’s not about the years in your life that count, it’s about the life in your years.” Cindy lived a life rich in love, laughter, adventure, leaving behind countless memories that will forever be treasured by those whose lives she touched.

As we bid farewell to our beloved Cindy, our hearts are heavy with sorrow yet buoyed by the knowledge that she now rests in a place of boundless peace and beauty, free from earthly pain. In our minds, we can picture her seated on the dock by a still glass lake, her beloved Danny by her side, casting lines into the still waters. Though we may feel the ache of separation, we take comfort in the belief that Cindy eagerly awaits the day when we will join her in that sacred place, embraced once more in the eternal love of our Heavenly Father. Until then, her memory will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her, a light guiding us through the darkness, and a reminder of the transformative power of love and faith.

In honor of Cindy's extraordinary life and enduring legacy, a viewing will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2024 at McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W Water Street, Elmira, from 12:00-2:00 PM. Following the viewing, we warmly invite friends and loved ones to gather with the family at Ill Eagle Taphouse, 200 E Church Street, Elmira, for a time of fellowship, food, and the sharing of cherished memories.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Cindy's honor to Myrtle Grove Christian School, a Christian school in North Carolina where her eldest granddaughter serves and where Cindy found joy in supporting its mission.
