Obituary of Norman W. Hosey

Passed away on Wednesday, September 14, 2016 at St. Joseph's Skilled Nursing Facility, with his loving family at his side. Norm was born June 17, 1931 in Elmira the son of William and Mary (Hercig) Hosey. He is predeceased by his mother and father, and his brother Ronald J. Hosey. Norm is survived by his loving wife of 60 years Patricia (Campbell) Hosey; children, all of Elmira, with their families, Michael and Ruth (Micklitsch) Hosey with children, Megan Mastalerz (Kevin) and Eric Hosey; Ann Murphy (David) with daughters, Zarah McGuire (Patrick), Chelsea Hayes (Mick); and Mary Hosey with sons, Michael and Daniel Stearns; and great grandchildren, Rowan and Milo McGuire and Lily and Ayza Hayes. Norm was a proud U.S. Army veteran serving his country during the Korean War. He was a graduate of Elmira Catholic High School, University of Scranton, with a Bachelor of Science Degree, and Elmira College, with a Masters Degree in Education. Norm was retired from the Elmira City School District where he taught for 32 years. He was very proud of his participation in the consolidation of the Elmira Catholic School District. He enjoyed his volunteer work at the Information Center in Chemung, the Elmira Library and the National Soaring Museum. Norm's life revolved around his family who will forever love and miss him. Family and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary's Church, Elmira, on Saturday, September 17, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. Military honors will be accorded outside of church after the Mass. Private committal prayers and interment will be at St. Peter and Paul's Cemetery. Special thanks go to Dr. Wm McClinitic and his nurse Karen Heller and Charge Nurse Linda Kimball and the 5th floor staff of St. Joseph's Skilled Nursing Unit.
