Frank Tangorre
Age 88 of Elmira, passed away peacefully at St. Joseph's Hospital Skilled Nursing with his loving family by his side, on Monday, November 5, 2012. Frank was born in Elmira on July 17, 1924, son of the late Salvatore and Maria (Addabbo) Tangorre. Frank married Irene T. Lagonegro on November 28, 1946. They were married for nearly 55 years before her passing in 2001. He was predeceased by his step mother Antoinette Tangorre; brothers, Vito Tangorre and Phillip Tangorre; sister-in-law Marie Tangorre and brother-in-law Albert Capozzi. Frank is survived by his six children, Robert F. and Susan P.Tangorre, Albany, Kathleen M. and Lance Griswold, Elmira, Thomas E. and Jacqueline Tangorre, Texas, James D. Tangorre, California, Edward J. and Mary Ann Tangorre, Albany, Corrine T. and Steve Manierre, Elmira Heights; grandchildren, Brian (Beth) Tangorre, Matthew (Roxana) Tangorre, Michael Tice, Kelly (Erik) Siegel, Bridget ( Joshua) Randash, Danielle Tangorre, Steven, Jennifer, and Robert Manierre; great grandchildren, Isabella, Grayson, Caitlin, Madeline, Brandon, Lillian, Evelyn, Allison, Byron, Evan, Alexis, Addison, Brooke and great great granddaughter Guinevere. Also surviving are brother and sister-in-law, Tony and AngieTangorre, Horseheads; sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary and Eugene Liquori, Elmira, Connie and Paul LaPrade, Rhode Island, Richard Lagonegro, Elmira and Joseph E. Lagonegro, Elmira; along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. His canine companion, Mandy was also a special part of his life. Frank was a graduate of Elmira Free Academy class of 1943. He served as a medic in the U.S. Army with duty in the Pacific Theatre and at Walter Reed Army Medical Center during WWII. He was a member of the Elmira Heights American Legion Post #154. Frank was a well-liked and respected business man who spent most of his career as an office manager in the glass business. He started as a salesman at Southern Tier Glass and then worked for several other companies in the Elmira area, retiring from Kelly Brothers. His love of food and his Italian heritage led Frank to run his own family business. He was the proud owner of Zarro's Pizzeria and Grocery on S. Main Street during the 1960's. Frank was a long time communicant of St. Patrick's Church and was a devoted member of the National Fraternity of the Secular Franciscan Order.
Family and friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W. Water Street, on Thursday, November 8, 2012 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, November 9, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church. Military honors will be accorded at the church immediately following the Mass. Interment will follow at St. Peter & Paul's Cemetery. Since the Arctic League played a vital part in Frank's childhood, donations in his memory may be directed to the Arctic League, P O Box 113, Elmira NY 14902. Frank's family extends a sincere thank you to Dr. Edward Foster and his associates for their care. A very special thank you is also extended to the genuinely caring staff at St. Joseph's Skilled Nursing who provided him dedicated support in a kind and loving manner each day.
