Obituary of Helen C. Rice

Age 88, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 28, 2016 in Stuart FL where she had been residing the last several years. Helen was born in Waverly PA, a daughter of Cassius and Gladys (Decker) Ross. She was predeceased by her husband of 69 years, Leonard Joseph Rice, Sr. and son Leonard Joseph Rice, Jr. Helen is survived by daughter Lenore Jane "Loni" Rice of Archer FL with her children, Rahshel Clair-Ann Rice, and Shadsun Leonard (Heather) Rice; daughter Claire Ann Rice Kuchera of Stuart FL with her children, Mikala Ann, Kelsa Ross and Caden Decker Kuchera; Leonard Jr's son Matthew Leonard Morseman, with his daughter, great grand-daughter Taylor Mae Stevens; brother and sister-in-law James and Loretta Ross of Avon NY; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins. Helen and her husband Leonard were co-owners of Rice's Floor Center. After they retired in the mid 1960's, they traveled extensively around the United States and throughout the world including Europe, China, and Egypt. They wintered in Florida and returned to Elmira in the warmer months. They enjoyed dancing and were often seen at area festivals. As a young girl Helen was a talented basketball player. She was a master bridge player and played with several local clubs. She enjoyed ceramics, painting, and was an avid gardener. She was also active in local politics working on many campaigns. Family and friends are invited to a graveside service on Saturday, June 11, 2016 at 4:00 p.m. at Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Hammondsport NY.
