Obituary of Stella M. Malandra

The angels are singing and dancing up above to welcome Stella with lots of love. A life-long resident of Elmira, Stella passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 14, 2016 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center at the age of 94. Stella was a daughter of Peter and Helen "Lena" (Letchi) Cambio. In addition to her parents Stella was predeceased by husband Joseph A. Malandra, son Vinny P. Malandra, son-in-law Ronnie Hawley, sisters, Lucy Narde and Mary Ann Mucci, brothers Angelo and Louie Cambio. Stella is survived by daughters and son-in-law, Carol A. and David Dehmler of Queen Creek AZ, JoEllen M. Hawley of Elmira, and Susan M. Rossi of Elmira; son Joey M. Malandra of Elmira; 10 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandsons; brother and sister-in-law, Peter and JoAnn Cambio of Cheektowaga NY; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Vincent "Junior" and Marcie Malandra of Warminster PA; several nieces and nephews. Stella had worked as a waitress for over 50 years at Paramount Bowling Lanes and also for several years at Sgro's Restaurant in Elmira. She was a member for the Elmira Heights American Legion Post 154 Auxiliary. Stella was a lifetime member of the Sacred Heart Ladies at St. Anthony's Church and was an adorer at St. Casimir's Church Adoration Chapel for 11 years. An avid bowler, she was a director of the Elmira Bowlers Woman's Association for several years and was inducted into the EBWA Hall of Fame 1992. Stella had a smile that would light up a room, was the life of the party and was someone who could always bring a smile to everyone. Her family was her life. All that she was and all that she did was centered on them. She will be truly missed. Family and friends are invited to Stella's Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, May 18, 2016, 12:30 p.m., St. Casimir's Church. Committal prayers and interment will follow at St. Peter and Paul's Cemetery. Those wishing may remember Stella with a donation to CareFirst, 3805 Meads Creek Road, Painted Post NY 14870-9509.
