Obituary of Dr. John M. Rominger

Elmira: Age 66, passed away at his home, with his loving family by his side, on Tuesday, November 10, 2015. Dr. Rominger was born July 28, 1949, in Philadelphia PA the oldest son of Martina (Henry) and Dr. C. Jules Rominger. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Maryhelen Glancey Rominger; their children, Erik F. Rominger and wife Amy with their daughter Lydia; Adam J. Rominger; Matthew H. Rominger and wife Joanna with their son Samuel; Sean Patrick Rominger; Katherine G. Rominger; his siblings and their spouses, Marcella Kubovsak; Robert J. and Eileen Rominger; Martina and Jeffrey Galli; David H. and Cindy Rominger; his brothers-in-law and their spouses, Gerald T. and Susan Glancey; Thomas F. Glancey, Jr.; Michael T. and Karen Glancey; Christopher J. and Debra Glancey; along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Dr. Rominger graduated from St. Joseph's University in 1971 and completed medical school at Jefferson Medical College of the Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, PA, in 1975. After completing his residency in internal medicine in 1978 and a Fellowship in Gastroenterology in Rochester, NY, in 1980, he established a private practice and was on staff at Arnot Ogden Medical Center and St. Joseph's Hospital in Elmira, NY.
John was an avid fisherman and enjoyed traveling whether for pleasure or to support his children in their various activities. He volunteered within the community serving as President (1989-1992) and board member for the Elmira youth hockey associations. John was very proud of his Irish heritage and was a longtime member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians.
Dr. Rominger would like to express his gratitude to the thousands of patients he treated who put their trust in him throughout his 38 years of practicing medicine. Additionally, he would like to thank his fellow physicians, nurses, and all staff members that he worked with for their support and dedication over the years.
Family and friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W. Water Street, Elmira, on Friday, November 13, 2015 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, November 14, 2015 at 10:00 a.m., Ss. Peter and Paul Church, 161 High Street, Elmira.
In lieu of flowers, a donation in Dr. Rominger's memory may be made to Notre Dame High School, 1400 Maple Avenue, Elmira NY 14904.
Officers and member of the A.O.H. will meet at McInerny Funeral Home on Friday, November 13th, at 6:45 p.m. to conduct a service for our brother, John.
