Clifford G. Annis
Pine City: Age 81, passed away Thursday, November 15, 2012, at Arnot Ogden Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family. Cliff was born in Guilford VA on April 10, 1931 a son of the late Major H. and Maude (Taylor) Annis. He is also predeceased by his sister Gladys Taylor and brothers, Stanley, Franklin, and Milton Annis. Cliff is survived by his wife of 58 years Nancy Sadler Annis; sons, with their families, Charles H. and Charlotte Annis, Big Flats, with children Sarah (Kurt) Dennis and Joshua Annis; Clifford G., Jr. and Dana Annis, Massillon OH, with children Megan and Matthew Annis; great grandchildren, Keyshaun and Karlie Dennis; sisters, Hallie Annis, Concord Wharf VA, Norma Short, Guilford VA; cousins, Mary Lou Mace, Elmira and Claire Cheesman, Bellport NY; along with several nieces and nephews. Cliff retired as a Master Sergeant from the U.S. Air Force with nearly 21 years of service, receiving several Air Force Commendation Medals for Meritorious Service. While in the military he was a member of a championship two man volleyball team. Cliff went to work with the U.S. Postal Service, retiring after 22 years of service. As a youth he was very active in 4-H and was a state poultry judging champion in Virginia. He enjoyed playing baseball and as his sons were growing up he spent many years coaching their baseball teams. Cliff was an avid bowler and loved gardening. He was a member of the Horseheads American Legion and Trinity Episcopal Church.
Friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W. Water Street, Elmira, on Saturday, November 17, 2012 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held there on Monday, November 19, 2012 at 12:00 noon, with Father William Lutz officiating. Interment, with military honors, will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery.
