Obituary of Margaret Mary Karam

Elmira: Age 96, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 22, 2014 at Bethany Manor in Horseheads. Peg was born in Elmira on August 19, 1917 a daughter of John J. and Mary Clancy Hallinan. She was predeceased by husband Kadeen G. Karam, brothers, John A. Hallinan and Thomas L. Hallinan, sisters, Alice Hallinan and Catherine Denmark. Peg is survived by daughter Maureen A. Karam of Elmira; sisters-in-law, Patricia Hallinan of Elmira and Edith Miller of Elmira; several nieces, nephews of the Denmark, Hallinan, Karam and Miller families; along with great nieces and great nephews. She was a devout Catholic and a lifelong communicant of St. Mary's Church. Peg retired from the Chemung County Nursing Facility. Very active in the community, Peg was a member of St. Joseph's Hospital Auxiliary, Ladies of Charity, and the Ladies Division of the Ancient Order of Hibernians. In honor of her volunteer work Peg was the recipient of the Mildred Parfitt Award given to the Woman of the Year by the Chemung County Department of Aging. Friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W. Water Street, Wednesday, June 25, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A prayer service will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, June 26, 2014 at 9:15 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in St. Mary's Church. Committal prayers and interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Peg's family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the staffs at Woodbrook and Bethany for the wonderful care they provided to her over the last several years. Also a heart-felt thank you to Peg's devoted sister-in-law Pat Hallinan for her care and support for Peg over the years.
Officers and members of the Ladies Division of the Hibernians will gather at the funeral home on Wednesday, June 25th at 7:00 p.m. to conduct a service for our sister, Peg. Signed, Laura O'Herron, President
