Karen L. VanHouten
Elmira: Age 67, passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side on Saturday, December 15, 2012 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center. Karen was born March 14, 1945, in Elmira, the daughter of the late John and Geraldine (Bergan) Brown. She is also predeceased by her sister Ann Cox. Karen is survived by her loving and devoted family….. husband of 48 years George C. VanHouten; sons, with their families; George C., II and Maryann, with sons, Zachary, Matthew, Nicholas and Jacob; Stephen G. and Amy, Big Flats, with sons, Thomas and Ryan; Jonathan C. and Kari Bellingham WA, with sons, Kincade and Emmett; Martin A., Elmira; Corey T., Elmira with Patricia Pierce and her son Alex; brothers, all of Elmira, John, Gerald and Phillip Brown; sister Frances Janeski, Elmira; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Richard Cox, James and Bonnie VanHouten, Wayne and Robin VanHouten, Lorraine and James Van Horn; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins. Karen was retired from Chemung Canal Trust Company. A very loving wife, mother and grandmother, her family was her life. She will be forever missed.
Family and friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W. Water Street, Elmira, on Tuesday, December 18, 2012 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A prayer service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, December 19, 2012 at 10:15 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. at St. Casimir's Church. Interment, with committal prayers, will follow at St. Peter & Paul's Cemetery. Those wishing may remember Karen with a donation to St. Jude's Childrens Hospital, P O Box 1893, Memphis TN 38101-9950.
