James J. Cristofaro
Age 66, of Elmira, NY, passed away peacefully, Thursday, March 25, 2010, at St. Joseph's Hospital Skilled Nursing Facility. Jim was born on October 23, 1943, a son of the late Michael and Rita (Stachel) Cristofaro. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Holly Cristofaro, of Mechanicville, NY, with children, Abigail and Matthew; daughter Elizabeth Cristofaro of Elmira; brothers and sisters, with their spouses, Nick Cristofaro of Arkport, NY, Geraldine and Tom Hall of Horseheads, John and Cheri Cristofaro of Greensboro, GA, Diane and Robert Disinksi of Columbus, GA, William and Darlene Cristofaro of Clifton Springs, NY; former wife, and good friend, Marilyn Cristofaro of Elmira; aunts and uncle, Betty Christofaro, Jean Stachel, Beryl and Glen Losinger; along with several nieces and nephews. Jim earned 4 Bronze Service Stars, serving in the Army, during the Vietnam War. He was the former Branch Manager of the U. S. Small Business Administration in Elmira. Jim was a member of the Elmira Country Club and Elmira Elks Lodge #62. A beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, Jim will be remembered for his kindness, humor, and generosity, as well as his ability to somehow always be right. Known to many as "Spooker" or "Monbou", Jim was an avid golfer who enjoyed an "occasional" glass of Chardonnay. He will be missed dearly. Family and friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, corner of Water and Walnut Sts., on Sunday, March 28, 2010 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. A funeral service, with Deacon George Welch officiating, will follow at 4:15 p.m. Military Honors will then follow at Woodlawn National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jim's memory may be made to the Chemung County SPCA, Route 352, Elmira, NY 14903, The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Donor Services, P O Box 4072, Pittsfield, MA 01202, or a charity of one's choice.
Jim's family would like to especially thank the 5th floor nursing staff at St. Joseph's SNF for the compassion and outstanding care they gave to Jim during his illness.
