Gloria A. Kirk
Elmira: Age 86, passed away Sunday, January 13, 2013 at Arnot Ogden Medical Center, with her much loved family by her side. Gloria was born March 2, 1926 in Irvington NJ, the daughter of Joseph C. and Marie (Bouin) VanDorpe. She is predeceased by her husband of 56 years Terrell P. Kirk, Jr. Gloria is survived by her sons, with their families, Jason R. and Debra Kirk, Elmira, with children, Neiko, Dustin and Haleigh; Tanner G. and Sherry Kirk, Big Flats, with children, Wesley and Alexis; great-grandchildren, K'Von, Avanna and Carter Kirk; nephews, John VanDorp, Robert Van Dorpe, both of Toms River NJ; nieces, Joan Iuzzolino, Jill Siep, both of Booth Bay ME, Nancy Murnyack, Maryland, and Patricia Gornor, Massachusetts. Gloria grew up in New Jersey with her eyes set on the bright lights of Broadway. A wonderful singer and actress Gloria moved to NYC where she was a Rockette and also performed on Broadway in the King & I, My Fair Lady, and Kiss Me Kate. It was there that she met her husband Terrell who was a talented musician. Terrell was also a pilot and it was his job with Grumman that brought them to Elmira. Gloria's love of music continued with her participation in the Elmira Little Theater, and the Cantata Singers. She was also a long time volunteer at The Clemens Center. Gloria was a skilled seamstress and an avid gardener who loved to grow all kinds of flowers. Knowing the importance of blood donation, Gloria had donated over 23 gallons in her lifetime. Above all Gloria was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who always put the needs of her family first. Those wishing may remember Gloria with a donation to The Clemens Center, P O Box 1046, Elmira NY 14902-1046, or with a blood donation to the American Red Cross.
Please note: There will be a celebration of Gloria's life that will take place on Friday, January 25, 2013 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at The Clemens Center.
