James T. DeNunzio III Age 65, of Elmira, died unexpectedly on Friday, May 28, 2010 at home. Jim was born in Elmira, a son of the late James T. and Marguerite (Monahan) DeNunzio. He was preceded in death by his sister Patricia Marhefka and brother Daniel DeNunzio. Jim is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, James T. "Jamie" and Denise DeNunzio of Jupiter FL; daughter and son-in-law, Erica M. and Kyle Elston of Elmira with their children, Jack and Claire; daughters, Marcy B. DeNunzio, and Amy M. DeNunzio with her children Hunter and Sarah Clark, all of Elmira; sister and brother-in-law, JoAnn and Michael Barbieri of Elmira; brother Michael DeNunzio of Albany NY; aunt Marion Roberts of Odessa; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Jimmy, who ran DeNunzio's Sausage in Elmira and was known as "The Sausage King," started in the business with DeNunzio's Italian Grocery on the corner of W. Second and Grove Streets in 1974. He opened Harry Reagan's Tavern on Washington Ave. in 1982 before moving on to operate a sausage stand for many years at the Carousel Market at Eldridge Park. This led to Jim going into the wholesale sausage business. One of the highlights of the year for Jim, his family and the public was the Italian Festival in Watkins Glen. With the help of his family and friends, Jim would serve sausage and pasta to the entire Finger Lakes community. He loved to cook and was an avid gardener. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and took particular pleasure in a fishing trip taken to Alaska several years ago. Family and friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, corner of W. Water and Walnut Streets, on Wednesday, June 2, 2010 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A funeral service will follow at 8:15 p.m. Donations in Jim's memory may be directed to a charity of one's choice.
