Obituary of Gerald Carl Malanoski
Age 91, passed away peacefully at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center on Friday, November 15, 2024. Bud was born in Elmira, the son of John and Cecilia Malanoski. He was predeceased by his four sisters, Mildred Malnoski, Evelyn Gural, Dorothy Kubinski and Patricia Sobkowski. Bud is survived by his loving wife of 64 years Charlotte Rose (Makowiec) Malanoski. He is also survived by his son and daughter-in-law Dr. Gregory and Linda Malanoski of Hancock MA with their children, Maris Malanoski, Molleigh Taft (Tyler), Robert Cassidy (Jill), and Courtney Acuto (Bryan): daughter and son-in-law Cynthia and Gill Grubb of Chesterfield VA with her daughter Dylana Signore; great grandchildren, Connor, Isla, Rose, Colson, Maylee, Max, and Ava; brother-in-law John Makowiec (Sandra); several nieces and nephews.
Bud was a US Air Force veteran, obtained his bachelor’s degree in business administration from Ithaca College, and his master’s degree in counseling from Alfred University. He retired from the Elmira Correctional Facility as a classificational analyst with over 35 years of service. Bud loved the outdoors and enjoyed many hunting and fishing seasons with his children and many friends. He was forever spotted opening day on Catherine Creek, and most recently was noted to be the most senior and successful rainbow trout fisherman wading in the waters every April 1st.
Bud was both an avid Notre Dame University football fan and a New York Giants football fan, never missing a game from either team. Most of all, he truly enjoyed watching his beloved St. Louis Cardinals baseball team and planned each and every day during the season watching each and every game in the 162-game season! Bud was loved by everyone and enjoyed bringing a smile to the face of many with his humor and sometimes not so funny jokes. He will be missed by so many left behind, but certainly will be joining many others on one of those heavenly ball fields.
There will be no prior calling hours. Family and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial to be held at St. Mary’s Church, 224 Franklin St., Elmira NY on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. Committal prayers and interment, with military honors, will follow at St. Peter & Paul’s Cemetery.
