Obituary of Louise T. Gavette

Age 82, passed away peacefully at home with her family by her bedside on Friday, March 15, 2024.  Louise was born in Sidney NY, a daughter of Frank and Kathryn Cost Cockcroft.  She was predeceased by her son Mark Davis, sister Mary Ellen Miller, and brother Thomas Cockcroft.  Louise is survived by her husband Arnold N. Gavette; daughters, Mary Gavette of Horseheads, and Sara Gavette of Endicott with her children, Dominic, Angelina, Emma, and Alexander; Mark’s children, Lucas and Sean Davis; stepdaughter Carol Steele, with husband, of Nevada; stepson Dennis Gavette, with wife, of Alaska. 

Louise enjoyed gardening and traveling.  She was an avid quilter and when traveling would always stop at fabric stores along the way.  She and Arnold had volunteered for Meals on Wheels for approximately 20 years.  Most important to Louise was her family, her home and being a homemaker. 

Family and friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W. Water St., Elmira, on Saturday, March 23, 2024, from 12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m.  A funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m.   Those wishing may remember Louise with a donation to either St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105-9959, or a charity of one’s choice.

Louise’s family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the caring staff of the 7NW wing at Robert Packer Hospital and to CareFirst Hospice for their care of Louise in her final weeks at home.
