Obituary of Joseph R. Werkheiser
Age 56, passed away at home on Monday, February 5, 2024, after a short battle with cancer. Joe was born in East Stroudsburg PA, son of Eleanor Gilliland Werkheiser of Elmira and the late Robert Werkheiser Sr. In addition to his mother, Joe is survived by his loving wife Roxann Baldwin Werkheiser; children Haley Werkheiser (Dakota Wilson), Barbie Werkheiser Mahood (Joseph), Rachel Werkheiser all of Elmira, Jolene Werkheiser of New Hampshire, Alyssa Barnes of Sayre, Joseph Werkheiser of Sayre , and Dakota Baldwin of Elmira; brother Robert Werkheiser (Marcia) of Gillett PA; sister Bridget Werkheiser of Elmira; several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and his faithful canine companion Emmy. Joe was currently working as the maintenance supervisor at Bethany Manor. Joe was a devoted husband and father to his wife and children. His children remember him as a loving father who encouraged them to pursue their goals. Joe was passionate about collecting beer stein mugs and indulged in hunting. Joe took great pride in a good days work and in all his years he never took one sick day throughout his long career as a contractor, he formed many friendships. He was a fun-loving and quick with a joke. He also enjoyed a good football game, especially the Buffalo Bills. He also held a long time membership at Jim’s Gym. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Family and friends are invited to call at McInerny Funeral Home, 502 West Water St., Elmira NY, on Saturday, February 24, 2024 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. A funeral service will follow at 4:00 p.m.
