Obituary of Mary Beth Gordon
Age 69, passed away on Monday, February 5, 2024 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center. Mary was born and raised in Elmira, the fifth oldest of 10 children to the late Robert F. “Buster” and Marion “Mimi” Howland Gordon. In addition to her parents, Mary is predeceased by sisters, Sharon “Sherry” Grafius and Carol Gilboy, brothers, Michael “Mickey” and Mark Gordon. Mary is survived by her sons, Ken Cushion and Robert (Sheyenne) Cushion; grandchildren, Lexi Harvey, Kenny Cushion and Nicholas Cushion; siblings, Janet “Punky” Fagan, Robert “Bob” (Rose) Gordon, Nancy (Mark) Waggy, Diane Burchard, and Alan Scott Gordon. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and lifelong best friend Patty Shepherd Bonnell.
Mary was a 1972 graduate of Southside High School. She was a U.S. Air Force veteran. Mary spent most of her adult life living in Texas and had moved back to the Elmira/Corning area a few years ago. She had a heart of gold, her faith was strong, steadfast and unwavering. Mary enjoyed cooking, music, bowling and reading. Most of all, Mary loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and her cats.
Family and friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W. Water Street, Elmira, on Thursday, February 15, 2024 from 11:00 to 12:00. A funeral service will follow at 12:15 p.m. Committal prayers and interment, with military honors, will take place at 2:00 p.m. at Bath National Cemetery.
