Obituary of Stanley A. Wisniewski Sr.

 Age 81 passed away, Sunday November 26, 2023, after a long courageous battle with cancer with his beloved family by his side.  He is predeceased by his parents Joe and Leona (Jankowski) Wisniewski, infant daughter Rose Marie, brothers and sister-in-law, John and Jane Wisniewski, Joe Wisniewski, sister and brother-in-law Theresa and Don Stamp and their son Danny Joe, and his son-in law Robert Larivee.

Stosh is survived by his wife of 61 years Antoinette “Nettie”; children, Leonard Paul of Florida, Mae Ann Larivee (Jake Friedl) of Georgia, Stanley “Lee” Andrew Jr. (Robin) and Anthony Joseph, both of Virginia; grandchildren, Cameron Wisniewski (Nikki), Tyler Wisniewski (Jessica), Collette Parrish (Matt), Rachelle Larivee, Kendall Wisniewski, Walker Larivee, and Kolbee Wisniewski; great-grandchildren, Caden and Juliana Parrish, Harper Wisniewski and Skyler Maye, and Cameron Wisniewski, Jr.; as well as many nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law, Barbara Wisniewski and Mary Corsi; special friends, Marilyn Scheepsma, Bill and Sue Harter and Dot and Dennis Lehto. Stosh joins his special friends, John Scheepsma and Jim Dominikoski in eternal peace. Because of his devoted family, Stosh was able to stay at home and be cared for by his family with help from hospice. His entire life revolved around his religion, family, and work.   Stosh had a long busy working career.  He started working part time for the Chemung County Sewer District and soon after became a full-time fireman with the Elmira Fire Department.  When not on duty with the fire department, he continued to work with the sewer district putting in as many as 30 hours a week.  He retired from the fire department with 37 years of service and from the sewer district with 40 years of service. Stosh loved bowling, playing euchre, and watching his children at their sporting events.  As their family grew, he and his wife liked to travel to see their children and their families. In later years he and Nettie traveled to Myrtle Beach and Florida as snowbirds; finally settling in Florida, full time, for the past 10 years to enjoy the weather. He enjoyed making rosaries, giving many to the deployed military, as well as his friends and family. Stosh was a lifelong member of his home parish, St Casimir’s Church, where he was a choir member, and on the Parish Council. In Elmira, he was a member of the White Eagles Club.  In Florida he was a member of the Church of the Epiphany where he was an adorer at the adoration chapel, a member of the Men’s Fellowship and a Eucharistic Minister.  Family and friends are invited to Stosh’s Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, May 17, 2024, 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church, 224 Franklin Street, Elmira. Private family committal prayers and interment will follow at St. Peter & Paul’s Cemetery.
