Obituary of Joseph Dean Place
Age 81, passed away peacefully in Bangor ME on November 2, 2023. Joe was born in Elmira NY, the son of the late Dean and Helen (Calkins) Place. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Geraldine ‘Jeri” (Foster) Place, sons and daughter-in-law, Robert and Deborah Place of Newburg ME, and Scott Place of Elmira with his son Deven; brother and sister-in-law Alan and Donna Place of Bradenton FL.
Joe served in the U.S. Army from 1961 to 1964 then enlisted in the National Guard as a 2nd Lieutenant. He was a member of the Grand Lodge Free and Accepted Masons, Horseheads Old Oak 364, Empire State Society - Sons of the American Revolution, Newtown Battle Chapter, The American Legion Horseheads Post #442, Sons of the Union Veterans Organization and the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter #803. Joe retired from NYSEG after 33 years of service. He was also a big race fan and volunteered many hours at the Watkins Glen Grand Prix Festival. Joe and his boys also volunteered delivering gifts for the Arctic League. Family always came first for Joe. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who will forever be missed.
A graveside service with military honors will be held at a later date in Fitzsimmons Cemetery. Local arrangements by McInerny Funeral Home.
