Sharon, Bonnie Washburn, Carol Ann Langstine and I were college roommates and friends. Time and life events separated us in physical distance but we reunited in person and kept the relatioships going through social media. Though we did not keep up as much as we would have liked these relationships have always been near and dear in my heart. I will always remember Sharon's smile. That smile would light a room! I will miss you old friend but I know your lighting heaven with that smile. Love you.

Sharon was a strong and faithful women of God. She was steadfast in her faith and her love for her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was a Godly and devoted wife to her husband Jr. , mother to her children and grandmother to her grandchildren. Sharon faithfully and unselfishly gave of her self to the Body of Christ & to the needs of others. She has now gone home to be with her Lord and We have no doubt that she has heard Him say to her “ well done my good and faithful servant” . She is now with her husband Jr. and dwells in perfect peace in the presence of God. We thank God for putting Sharon Oakes in our lives and for the privilege and blessing of knowing her. Sharon, JoAnn Wise and I (Bonnie Washburn) were roommates in college (Corning Community College). It was an amazing time in1967. We have kept in touch through Facebook. Sharon was always fun to be around and I'll never forget those times and memories. I was heart broken to hear of her passing. God Bless all her family and all the people that cared for her. I know she is in a better place and at peace.

Twenty years ago, when we came to the church where Sharon was a long-standing member, she made me feel welcome right away and invited me to the women’s Bible study. She was a strong leader who served our church in many ways, and was a gifted administrator. I especially remember her passion to implement a new child protection program to keep our children safe at church. She had a wonderful sense of humor, even in difficult times and circumstances. Sharon was a graceful and classy example for the women of our church to follow. She was always such a joy to be around, and I will miss her very much.
