The Lares’ moved in two doors down when we were kids and Mike was always part of our family. Whether he was playing catch with my brothers or playing cards, he was a fixture.
When he moved in with Jack, Bernadette and me in Union, NJ, we small-town kids tried to make sense of New York City, dating, and the 90s. To me, Mike’s playlist is the Clash because that’s was what he was listening to when we were roommates.
The fab four from Elmira eventually broke up. I ran into Mike at a party a few years later, and he was gushing about a woman named Phyllis. He was smitten. Boy, was I ecstatic to receive their wedding invitation!
My mom said Mike had the “Irish gift of gab“ which was so true. He could talk to anyone easily, intelligently, and humorously. And what a fabulous storyteller!
Mike said something profound to me on my wedding day. “Coll, John’s a lucky guy” and he followed it with a warm embrace. He and Phyllis were expecting Rebecca at our wedding, and in a few years our toddlers would meet.
Mike was a charming Irishman and he leaves a gaping hole. Rest in peace, brother from another mother. I hope you’re in heaven rocking the Casbah!
Love to all his family,
Colleen Prunier Pataky

I have known Mike for almost 50 years, ever since his family moved 2 houses away from our family on Livingston Street. I would like to share a few memories I had of Mike. Summers as a kid, there were summer cohesion at Riverside school. After 3 o'clock when summer cohesion ended was are daily home run derby competition at the Cinderella softball field with the neighborhood crew. Were totals of home runs over the short fence grew daily. There were games of hide and go seek at our house at night. Of course there crazy games like kill the guy with the ball. Hotbox wasn't as crazy. Epic basketball games on our basketball court. Jumping off Mike's' garage into the swimming pool. As we got older, waiting for Mike's mom to go to work at 11, so the party could start. After college I moved to NYC. I had an apartment with my sister in Union, NJ. We invited Mike to come and live us. Some pretty crazy times in the late 80's. That is where Mike met Phyllis. After the apartment crew split up, Mike went to live with Phyllis in Astoria Queens. I remember moving Mike in, a 5 story walkup on hottest day of the year and he had no beer. First stop, lets get some beer. Then moving Mike and Phyllis to Staten Island in nice white house. Then being Mike's best man at his wedding to Phyllis in Elmira. Going to Mike and Phyllis house for holidays with my daughter Noreen. Mike barbecuing and epic poker games. Mike taking care of my Aunt Franny's money and investing wisely for her. A couple of years ago Mike came to Florida to visit, sitting around my moms table telling old stories and laughing with my brother Mike and mom. Mike had a lot of funny stories and Mike knew everyone. Mike touched a lot of lives and he will not be forgotten. May God bless him. Mike will be missed by all who knew and loved him. His life was well spent and gone way too soon. May he rest in peace. Mike was proud of Phyllis , Hunter and Rebecca

I am so sorry to hear of Mike's passing. I just saw him 3 weeks ago and he was very positive and looking forward to his next golf game. We graduated high school together and enjoyed reminiscing about the "good ole days". He was always very kind to all. My deepest sympathies to Mike's family and close friends.

I worked closely with Mike for 15 years. We had many good discussions on the topics of music, politics, science and families. We also had a lot of fun!
It was apparent to me that Mike cared deeply for his family.
I would say Mike's most outstanding characteristic was that he had a very compassionate soul.
