Obituary of Nicolina Capozzi Difasi
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Nicolina (Capozzi) Difasi, a cherished wife, mother, and grandmother. She was born on April 28, 1931 in Molinara, Italy, a daughter of Donato and Pasqualina (Emanuel) Capozzi and passed away on Thursday, July 6, 2023, at the age of 92. She came to America , from Italy, when she was 16 years old, making her home in Elmira. Nicolina was predeceased by her husband of 47 years, Angelo Vito Difasi, in 1999; siblings, Vincent (Lena) Capozzi, Abbodanzia (Rocco) Menechella.
Nicolina is survived by her children, and their spouses, Anthony and Antoinette Difasi of Horseheads, Jeannette and William Meck of Pine City, Daniel and Deborah Difasi of Horseheads, Michael and Rena Difasi of Horseheads, Mary and Joseph Brenzo of Horseheads and Charles Difasi of Elmira; 13 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; along with several nieces and nephews.
A retired seamstress, Nicolina also loved to knit and crochet. She was an avid bowler and bocci ball player. A wonderful cook and baker, her Sunday sauce and meatballs, along with her pizza, Italian cookies and breads were to die for. No one ever left the table hungry….”mangia”! A devout Catholic, Nicolina was a long -time communicant of St. Anthony’s Church, where she was a member of the Sacred Heart Ladies.
Nicolina will be remembered as a kind, caring, and loving women, deeply rooted in her Catholic faith, Italian heritage, and dedicated to her family and friends.
Family and friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W. Water Street, Elmira, on Tuesday, July 11, 2023 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A prayer service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, July 12, 2023, at 9:15 a.m., followed by a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Patrick’s Church, 604 Park Place, Elmira. A livestream of the Mass will be available through the Facebook page for Most Holy Name of Jesus Parish, (https://www.facebook.com/Elmira Catholic). Interment, with committal prayers will follow at St. Peter & Paul’s Cemetery.
