I remember when my Dad worked for Pudgie at the Horse heads and Elmira pudgies and Papa Pudgie brought us a cat named Kirby and that cat wouldn't take to anybody...just a week before his passing I saw Pudgie in Byrne Dairy where I'm employed and he proceeded to ask about my mom and my Dad who he remembered as one of her s hardest workers..I told him everyone was well but that my father had passed in August and he proceeded to tell me how my Dad had raised a sweet, kind young lady and he left me with that signature smile .. my prayers to your family!!!

Charles “Pudgie “ Cleary will be remembered as an Elmira icon. When I moved to Elmira in 1968, one of our favorite take outs was aPudgies pizza from the small south side location. This small business was the basis for all the other stores. There wasn’t anyone in the southern tier who hadn’t had a slice of Pudgies pizza. Rest In Peace Pudgie.

I grew up two blocks from the original Pudgie's in the 1960 and always loved stopping in and seeing Pudgie. Always a warm smile and greeting, amazing pizza. He was a very kind man.
