Obituary of James Ransom Biggs

Age 74, passed away at home after a long illness. Jamie was born in Elmira, son of the late George Ransom Biggs and Betty Dwyer Biggs. He was also predeceased by his brother David Biggs. Jamie is survived by his wife of 53 years, Jean Ann Vickery Biggs; daughter Paula Biggs of Elmira with her daughter Brittany (Adam) Shields; son Michael Biggs of Elmira with his daughter Isabelle Biggs and stepdaughter Hannah Osborne; sisters, Margy Biggs of Elmira, and Wendy Leahy with John Amara of Quincy MA; brother and sister-in-law, John and Nancy Biggs of Brunswick ME; great granddaughter Lily Shields; niece Katie Biggs; nephews, Ben, Will and Matt Leahy; and several cousins
Jamie was a 1966 graduate of Southside High School. He attended Broome Community College. Jamie served in the US Army from 1970 to 1972. He was the longtime owner of Elmira Metal Works, selling the business upon his retirement. In earlier years Jamie enjoyed golfing, playing basketball in Elmira adult leagues and target shooting at the Elmira Sportsman Club. His two great loves were his family and Keuka Lake.
Family and friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W. Water St., Elmira, on Monday, December 5, 2022, from 2:00 to 5:15 pm with a funeral service to follow at 5:30 pm. Committal prayers and military honors will take place at Woodlawn National Cemetery on Tuesday, December 6, 2022 at 1:00 pm. Those wishing may remember Jamie with a donation to the Elmira Animal Shelter, 840 Linden Place, Elmira NY 14901. If you choose to donate, please donate gift cards as the Elmira Animal Shelter is unable to accept cash or checks.
