Obituary of Joan R. Monahan

Age 79, passed away unexpectedly at her home on Thursday, October 20, 2022. Joan was born and raised in Elmira, a daughter of the late Richard E. and Delores (MacMahon) Wagner. She was predeceased by her husband of 50 years Richard S. Monahan, in 2015. Joan is survived by children and their families, Shawna M. and Wade Townsend of Burke VA with their children, Zack (Jessica) Townsend with daughter Blake, Kacie (Nicholas) Sanchez with daughter Eastyn, Devin Townsend and Ryan Townsend …. Kelly L. and Steve Belloma of Elmira Heights with their sons, Dante, Dre and Tyler …. Michael R. and Julie Monahan of Horseheads with children, Kegan and Pyper; brother and sister-in-law Richard and Annie Wagner of Las Vegas NV; sister Peggy Wagner of Stockton CA; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, William Wetzel of Briar Cliff Manor NY, Gerald and Sue Monahan of Hillsboro NC, Rosemary Monahan of Stow MA; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Joan was a 1961 graduate of Notre Dame High School and earned her Bachelor's Degree in Education from Mansfield University in 1965. Along with her husband Richard, they were the owners and operators of Taylor Rental Center – Monahan Party Rentals in Horseheads. The passion in Joan's life was her family. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Family and friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W. Water St., Elmira on Friday, November 4, 2022 from 12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. Committal services will then take place at Woodlawn National Cemetery.
