ON BEHALF OF THE DENMARKS, PLEASE KNOW THAT OUR HEARTS ARE WITH YOU DURING THIS DIFFICULT TIME.
WE’D LIKE TO SHARE A FEW WORDS ABOUT AUNT PAT, BUT FIRST OF ALL, HOW DID YOUR MOM STAY SO CALM WITH FIVE KIDS, AND THEN SHE SAID YES TO MORE BEING SHIPPED IN FROM NEW YORK CITY.
WE HAVE SO MANY MEMORIES – ALL WONDERFUL – OF OUR TIMES WITH YOU, AND HOW YOUR MOTHER WAS THE GUIDING FORCE. WE LIVED ON AN ARMY BASE, SO WE WERE USED TO ORDER, BUT YOUR MOTHER HAD IT DOWN PAT. SHE WAS CONSTANT, NEVER CHANGING, STEADY – EXACTLY WHAT WE NEEDED. WE NEVER FELT LIKE VISITORS, WE WERE THE NYC RELATIVES WHO SHOWED UP, TOOK PART IN EVERY ACTIVITY – FROM REUNIONS TO STORIES OF ESCAPED PRISIONERS, AND YOUR MOM WAS THE REASON WE FELT AT HOME. WE DIDN’T HAVE TO GET USED TO OUR NEW ENVIROMENT, YOUR MOM WAS THERE AND WE WERE ADDED TO THE GROUP.
WE USED TO KID AND SAY HOW DID AUNT PAT STAY SO CALM. WE REALIZE NOW THAT YOU WERE THE ONES MAKING HER CRAZY, NOT US. WE WANTED TO BE INVITED BACK
NOT THAT WE TOOK OUR TIMES WITH YOU FOR GRANTED, BUT AS WE GOT OLDER, WE REALIZED WHAT A GIFT YOUR MOM AND DAD GAVE US.
AND SPEAKING OF OLDER, I’D LIKE YOUR MOTHER’S SECRET TO STAYING YOUNG. SHE NEVER CHANGED OR AT LEAST WE DIDN’T NOTICE – THE HAIR MAY HAVE GOTTEN GRAYER, BUT AUNT PAT STAYED THE SAME. WE WANTED TO KNOW THE SECRET TO THAT TOO.
SO THANK YOU FOR SHARING YOUR MOM WITH US. WE LOVED HER AND ARE SO GRATEFUL FOR BEING ABLE TO CALL HER AUNT.

Today was the first mass i attended since our moms passing, as i was in line to receive communion, i realized that i did not have to get the Eucharist and bring it to her. I would usually give her the pyx and say Body of
Christ, she would take it in another room with her prayer book and then come out and hand me the pyx back, then we would go in the kitchen and have donuts, we were at donut store today and while we were ordering Bridget started crying, i asked her why but she couldnt answer, i inherited a good amount of the stoic Irish emotions so as usual i was clueless, after she stopped crying she said "i was just about to order your moms donut, apple filled, and then i realized we didnt need to get it. It was then that i realized she was actually gone. Never will get used to her not being here but absolutely know she is at peace, pain free and enjoying a apple donut in Heaven

Our thoughts and prayers are with all of the Hallinan family. Pat was a good friend to my mom and I always enjoyed my visits to Laurel St., the visits sometimes took longer than the repairs lol.
