Joan Palmer Maney
Elmira: Age 83, passed away Monday, November 29, 2010 at St. Joseph's Hospital. Joan was born February 26, 1927, a daughter of the late Ernest and Hazel (Allen) Palmer. In addition to her parents she is predeceased by her sister Jane Saltsman, brother Ernest Palmer, Jr., cousin Sally Rolls, sister-in-law and brothers-in-law, Hilda Miller, Paul and Hugh Maney. Joan is survived by her husband of 63 years Vincent S. Maney; daughter and son-in-law Lynn M. and Joseph Cascio of Elmira; son Timothy P. Maney of Elmira; grandchildren, J.J. (Vanessa) Cascio of Boulder CO, Cara L. (Justin) Meyer of Plattsburgh NY; great-grandchildren Matthew, Mia and Giovanna Cascio, Simon and Luca Meyer; sisters-in-law, Doris Palmer Dunn of Elmira, Joyce Psyher of Phoenix AZ; aunt Martha Garrison of Williamsport PA; Franklin Rolls of Elmira; nieces and nephews, Margaret Miller (Skip) Papanikolas of Phoenix AZ, Susan (Dale) Little of Pine City, David (Sue) Palmer of Alton NY, Rebecca (Dennis) Vegard, G. Richard (Janice) Saltsman, John (Doreen) Saltsman, all of Elmira. Also surviving are many loving and caring extended family members, and faithful canine companion, "Pepper". Joan was a graduate of Southside High School. She worked at Gorton Coy before raising her family. In later years she went back to work with Morrell's Tailors and The Gentlemen's Quarters from where she retired. Wanting to keep active Joan went back to work with her daughter and son-in-law at Cascio Financial Strategies where she was an integral part of the business. A long time active communicant of St. Mary's Church, Joan was a member of the Rosary & Altar Society, used her gift of music to start and direct the Children's Choir, and was a member of the Adult Choir. Family and friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, corner of W. Water and Walnut Sts., on Friday, December 3, 2010 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, December 4, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Church. Interment will take place at Woodlawn National Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Those wishing may remember Joan with a donation to St. Joseph's Hospital Foundation, 555 St. Joseph's Blvd., Elmira NY 14901. Joan's family would like to offer special thanks to Dr. Brian Cassetta, the nursing staff on 3D and ICU at St. Joseph's Hospital for the wonderful care Joan received.
