My parents spent many summers on Cayuga Lake's North Shore in the 80's and 90's at the Ithaca Yacht Club with Mary Lou and Myers (Mr. and Mrs. Thurber as we called them even though we were adults by then). Mary Lou was always impeccably dressed and in great shape, and always, always, always had a big smile - the smile in her wonderful photo that her loving sons and daughters-in-law chose for this obituary.
This is a beautiful tribute to a woman who was much more than meets the eye. I realized how little I knew about her when I read the obituary. I can tell from the words that her family is proud of her, and I know she was so proud of all of you.
She may be one of the last survivors of the EFA class of 77 parent group. How lucky we were to have parents who shaped our lives with such enthusiasm, work ethic, intelligence, grace, and sense of family. I know Mary Lou's legacy - and her memory - will live on in each of us.
