Age 81, passed away on February 21, 2021, with his family by his side at his home in Elmira, New York.
He was born May 4th, 1939, in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania to Donald T. Hughes, Sr. and Faustina Bernauer Hughes.
Donald was a veteran and proudly served his country in the United States Army. Donald graduated from Elmira College in 1972. He lived and worked in Elmira for 51 years. He retired from Anchor Glass Container in 2003, where he worked as a millwright and tin smith for over 20 years. Donald was a skilled and creative person who enjoyed woodworking, weaving baskets, photography, pottery, gardening, and antiques. He loved beekeeping and shared his bountiful supply of honey with others. He spent many years teaching Sunday School and was a dedicated Sunday School bus driver. He was blessed by the fellowship he received at Berrytown Wesleyan Church. Donald fought a brave battle with Parkinson's. Working out with Rock Steady Boxing in Elmira Heights helped him stay strong in his fight.
Donald is survived by his loving wife of fifty-one years, Betsy; sister Elizabeth Ault; children, Steve Miller (Lisa), Helen Hughes Warner (Jason), William Hughes (Elizabeth); and seven grandchildren, Luke Miller, Sam Miller, Emma Warner, Wyatt Warner, Lily Warner, Samuel Warner, and Avery Hughes.
Private services will be held.
