John J. Limoncelli
Elmira: Age 92, died Saturday, April 2, 2011, at Arnot Ogden Medical Center. John was born June 23, 1918, the last surviving of 8 children born to Joseph and Angela (Carozza) Limoncelli. He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Devine "Dee" Festa Limoncelli; sons and daughters-in-law, J. William and Barbara Limoncelli of Horseheads, and Ronald E. and Deborah A. Limoncelli of Palatine Bridge, NY; grandchildren, Jeffrey (Amy) Limoncelli of Elmira, with children, Nico, Michael, and Joseph; Lisa Limoncelli of Atlanta, GA; and Alison Limoncelli of Palatine Bridge; several nieces, nephews, good neighbors, and friends. John was a graduate of Elmira High School, then attended Hobart College on a football scholarship. John served in the U. S. Navy during WWII. He later completed course work at Elmira College. He started his career with Remington Rand, where he was the Maintenance Supervisor. John then went to work for Sperry Univac World Headquarters in Blue Bell, PA where he was the Manager of the Plant Maintenance Department of all the Univac plants in the U. S. and Canada. Upon his retirement John stayed active working as a golf course ranger at Soaring Eagles Golf Club up to the age of 90. In earlier years he was a member and Past President of Notre Dame High School Athletic Association, Past President of Sperry Remington Staff Association, and past advisor to the Board of Cooperative Educational Services (BOCES). John was inducted into the Elmira Sports Hall of Fame for his football accomplishments. He enjoyed golf, watching and feeding birds outside of his apartment, gardening, and reading, especially biographies of sports figures. John was a member of the American Legion Post #443, Elmira PBA, and long time communicant of St. Patrick's Church. Friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, corner of W. Water and Walnut Sts., on Friday, April 8, 2011 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A prayer service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, April 9, 2011 at 9:15 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church. Interment, with military honors, will follow at St. Peter & Paul's Cemetery.
