Obituary of Marie Leonie Derito

Marie Leonie Derito Elmira: Age 70, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, passed away, with her loving family and friends by her side, on Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at Arnot Ogden Medical Center. Leonie was born July 20, 1940, a daughter of the late Henri C. and Dora (Melanson) Richard. She is also predeceased by her brother Joseph C. "Pete" Richard, and brother-in-law Don Kent. Leonie is survived by her husband of 44 years, Joseph M. Derito; son Michael J. Derito of Knoxville TN with his daughter Madison Isabella; siblings, with their spouses, Marie Ann and Joseph Norton of Monroe NC, Cathy and Daniel McLaughlin of Elmira, Henri J. "TouTou" and Ann Richard of Durham NH, Louise Kent of Fort Mill SC; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Anthony J. Derito of Campbell NY, Nicholas C. and Pamela Derito of Elmira, Marianne Derito of Elmira, Tess Richard of Henrietta NY; along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Leonie was a 1958 graduate of Notre Dame High School and a City of Elmira retiree. She was an active member of the Elmira Zonta Club, and a long time communicant of St. Patrick's Church. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Family and friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, corner of W. Water and Walnut Sts., on Thursday, June 9, 2011 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A prayer service will be held there on Friday, June 10, 2011 at 11:15 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 noon at St. Patrick's Church. Interment, with committal prayers, will follow at St. Peter and Paul's Cemetery. Leonie's family extends a special thanks to the entire staff on 2B at AOMC (from housekeeping, to the nursing staff), AOMC nutritional services, staff at the Falck Cancer Center, Dr. Roger Schenone and his staff, Southern Tier Hospice, and all her caregivers, including family, that have cared for her over the last 23 months.
