Miriam L. Stull VanSile
Big Flats: Age 86, passed away on Wednesday, November 16, 2011, with her loving family by her side, at Arnot Ogden Medical Center. Miriam was born May 2, 1925 in Commodore PA, a daughter of Paul and Velma (Lockard) Shank. She is predeceased by her first husband Arthur Stull, and sisters, Alberta Fleming and Theda Ginter. Miriam is survived by her husband of 37 years, Donald E. VanSile of Big Flats; children, with their families, Harold and Leslie Stull of Horseheads with children, Trevor (Marilea) Stull, Eric (Angie) Stull; Dana and Peggy Stull of San Jose CA with children, Jason (Petra) Stull, Danessa (Juan Galvez) Stull, Krista (Shane Periandri) Stull; Cindy and Tom McGuire of Elmira with children, Scott (Tina O'Herron) McGuire, Lauren (Jeff Frasier) McGuire; 10 great grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert and Meredith Shank, David and Ginny Shank; sisters, Willavene Sandbek and Inajean Strong; sister-in-law Ruth Morse of Caton; along with numerous nieces and nephews. Miriam was an avid quilter. There wasn't a family member who didn't receive a quilt, or two. The Big Flats Historical Society also benefited from her homemade quilts, receiving quilts that Miriam and her good friend Kay Thompson made, raffling them off for fund raisers. Miriam was a member of the Central Baptist Church in East Corning and also a member of the Big Flats American Legion Auxiliary. Family and friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, corner of W. Water and Walnut Sts., Elmira, on Sunday, November 20, 2011 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held at the conclusion of calling hours. Interment will take place at Coopers Plains Cemetery. The family will provide flowers. Those wishing may remember Miriam with a donation to either, SPCA, Route 352, Elmira NY 14903, or Meals On Wheels, 150 Fox Street, Elmira NY 14901.
