George Bozinis
Age 82, of Horsheads, NY, died Saturday, March 3, 2012 at home. Survived by his wife of 56 years, Greta Paige Bozinis and sister, Marie Shea of Corning. Predeceased by infant daughter, Diane Bozinis; parents, Nick and Leone Bozinis of Big Flats; sisters, Catherine Williams of Ithaca, Dory Wheaton of Elmira, and Linda Davies of Corning. Also surviving are 19 cherished nephews and nieces. George was self employed and shared his talent for custom carving redwood signs at major fairs, the Mardi Gras, Texas stock shows and major horse shows. His first venture with his craft was the Washington, D.C., International Horse Show where he carved signs for Caroline Kennedy and her famed pony, "Macaroni" as well as "Geronimo", the pony belonging to the children of Robert Kennedy. Not so memorable about that time is the fact that the show was held in October and President Kennedy was assassinated just a brief month later. Fondest of George's memories are the times he carved in the front window of McCrory's at Arnot Mall during Christmas holidays. He was also a veteran of the Korean Conflict. The family expresses eternal gratitude to Dr. John Schiavone who deftly charted George's 27 year battle with Wegener's Granulomatosis, and to Mary Ann, Lori, Bindy, Beth, Gary, Pat, Aggie and many others of the Southern Tier Hospice who cradled George in there caring arms during the final months of his life. Friends also reached out with prayers and support, and they will not be forgotten. A private memorial is planned for the future. Rural Home Cemetery, Big Flats.
