Obituary of Jerome Kaplan

Jerome Kaplan Elmira: Age 66, passed away Tuesday, March 20, 2012 at Arnot Ogden Medical Center. Jerry was born May 1, 1945, in Elmira, the son of the late Barnett and Ada (Schayer) Kaplan. He is survived by his loving wife of 28 years Cheryl Billy Kaplan; son Connor J. Kaplan of Elmira; brother and sister-in-law, Leo and Bilha Kaplan of West Hartford, CT; sister-in-law, Lori Billy-Marnell, with husband Mike, of Sylvan Beach, NY; cousins, Dr. David Kaplan of Albany, NY, and Ellen Kaplan Gordon of Allentown, PA; along with extended family, Joe, Fran, and Morgan Cerio. Jerry received his Bachelor's Degree from Syracuse University. He continued his education, receiving a Masters of Geography Degree from the University of Nebraska and a Masters of Education Degree from Elmira College. Jerry was a Chemung County Probation Officer, before going to work as a Corrections Counselor at Elmira Correctional Facility. Upon the opening of the Southport Correctional Facility, Jerry went to work there, retiring in 2001. He was an avid Syracuse University football and basketball fan. Jerry also followed the University of Nebraska football, the New York Giants, and the San Francisco Giants. Friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, corner of W. Water and Walnut Sts., on Thursday, March 22, 2012 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Private interment.
