Cornelius James Milliken, Jr.
of Elmira, died Monday April 9, 2012. Connie was the son of the late Jean Sturges and Cornelius J. Milliken, Sr. Three siblings predeceased him. He is survived by his wife Jean Macdonell Milliken, daughters Mary Coleman (Victor, NY), Clare Milliken (Elmira), Ann Milliken (Saratoga Springs, NY), Eileen (Brian) Beiter (Fairport, NY), Jean Milliken (David) Sabol (Chagrin Falls, OH), sons Dr. Cornelius (Kathryn) Milliken (Elmira), John (Deborah) Milliken (Irvine, CA), Thomas (Ellen) Milliken (Elmira), 19 grandchildren and 10 siblings. Connie was a graduate of Elmira Catholic Schools and the College of the Holy Cross. He was a veteran of the US Army of Occupation in Japan. He was dedicated to community service all of his adult life, including the Chemung County Legislature for nearly 40 years; the past nine as Chairman, Director, Southern Tier Economic Growth, and Chairman, Chemung County Industrial Development Agency. He also served on the Clemens Center Board of Trustees, Arts of the Southern Finger Lakes, Elmira College Council, past Chair and Director Emeritus of Elmira Savings Bank, past President of the Chemung County Historical Society, past President, Community Foundation of Elmira-Corning, United Way, Corning Community College Board of Trustees, and was a charter member of the local chapters of the Ancient Order of Hibernians and the Italian American Veterans. Connie retired as Vice-President from Thatcher Glass Manufacturing and Director of External Affairs at Corning Community College.
Thanks to Drs. Robert Lambert and Dayakar Reddy for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Clemens Center and Southern Tier Hospice. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, April 14, 2012 at Our Lady of Lourdes, Elmira, at 10:00 AM.
