Obituary of Beverly Anne Mathew

Age 89, Rochester, NY, longtime resident of Elmira, NY passed away on Tuesday, November 6, 2018. Beverly was born on July 21, 1929 in Elmira, the daughter of the late Harry and Ethel (Chapman) Cavanaugh. In addition to her parents, Beverly was predeceased by her husband, Francis J. Mathew, her son, James G, Mathew, her brother Edward Cavanaugh and by Viola Cavanaugh. She is survived by her children; Michael (Mary Jo) and Patricia (James) Pestke; grandchildren; James Jr. (Dorinda) and David (Kerrin) Pestke, Thomas (Claire Conley), Christopher (Samantha Nano), and Kevin Mathew; great-grandchildren Samantha and Hunter Pestke; brother-in-law Robert L. Mathew along with several nieces and nephews, cousins and many dear friends. Beverly was active for many years with Our Lady of Lourdes Church and gave her time to many volunteer activities. She enjoyed knitting, reading and doing crossword puzzles. She worked as an administrative assistant at several different businesses before retiring. Family and friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W. Water St., Elmira, on Friday, November 16, 2018 from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. A prayer service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, November 17, 2018 at 8:45 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 9:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Church. Services will conclude with committal prayers and interment at St. Peter and Paul's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Beverly may be made to Catholic Charities of Chemung County Community Kitchen, 160 High St., Elmira, NY 14901 or to Meals on Wheels of Chemung County 409 William St., Elmira, NY 14901.
