Obituary of Edward W. Plaisted
Please share a memory of Edward to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Age 85, passed away on September 29, 2018, at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center. Edward was the son of the late Walter and Nellie Parker Plaisted He is survived by his loving wife, Helen "Sis" Lambert Plaisted; children, Mike Plaisted with Aletha Rollins of Elmira; Gary and Nancy Plaisted of Sugar Hill, GA; Tom and Lori of Syracuse, NY; grandchildren, Lindsey (Harris) Bristow, Lauren (Chad) Wages, Nick and Nicole Plaisted, Jennifer and Joe Donovan; great-grandson Ayden and many nieces and nephews. Ed was a graduate of Elmira Southside High School (1950). He then joined the US Navy right after graduation and soon was involved in the Korean War. Ed served on the USS Monterey and the USS Oriskany during his Navy time. Ed was a proud Navy veteran and could usually be seen wearing his favorite US Navy hat! After the Navy he returned to Elmira to marry his sweetheart "Sis" (1955) and start his career at the New York Telephone Company. He worked very hard as a lineman to provide for his family and had a great 37-year career. After retirement he put some of his spare time to use serving on several boards in town and volunteering at Meals on Wheels. He ended up being with Meals on Wheels for 22 years, as he enjoyed helping in the kitchen. Ed just liked to putter around the house, and work on his projects- content to stay at home! This past year he was able to participate in an Honor Flight trip to Washington to honor his Navy service. Ed will always be remembered for his great sense of humor and quick wit. He loved to laugh, and to make other people laugh. He was a devoted Husband and Father, who loved his family very much. He also loved his hometown Elmira and stayed on the Southside his whole life.He will be missed greatly by his family and friends left behind. His laughter and smile were something nobody could forget. We thank him for the example he set, and the way he lived his life. Gone but will never be forgotten.
