With a tender heart, sweet nature, and delightful sense of humor, Betty Gingrich lived well and loved best for 94 years. She was born at St. Joseph's Hospital on Thursday, September 13, 1923 and died at St. Joseph's Hospital on Saturday, July 21, 2018. Betty is predeceased by her husband, Adam "Joe" Gingrich and twin brother, William Givens. She is survived by her six children, and their families: Daniel and Donna Gingrich, with children, Susan, Dan and Sarah…Gerald Gingrich, with children Molly, Michael and Timothy, and their mother, Terry…Mary and Jim Palmer, with children, Matthew, Patrick, Andrew and Josh…Joseph and Annie Gingrich, with children, Marni and Kate…Theresa and David Woodruff, with children, Jillian and Kevin…Bernadette and Steve Allington, with children, Elizabeth and Adam; 22 great grandchildren; along with nieces and nephews. Betty was very proud to help out as a Red Cross nurses' aide during WWII at St. Joseph's Hospital. She later worked at the Star Gazette where she was the switchboard operator. Betty and Joe married and started their family which became Betty's full time career, being a loving and nurturing mom. She was a long time communicant of St. Patrick's Church. Following Betty's wishes there will be no calling hours. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Betty on Saturday, July 28, 2018, 12:00 noon, St. Patrick's Church. Betty's family extends their deepest appreciation to the 3rd floor staff at St. Joseph's SNF supervisors, nurses and housekeeping staff, who took care of Betty for 12 years, and whom Betty thought of as family. A special thank you to Dr. Keith Parker for his care of Betty over the years, and to the hospital Pastoral Care Dept. who took care of Betty's spiritual needs. Those wishing may remember Betty with a donation to the Josh Palmer Fund, P O Box 3223, Elmira NY 14905, which is a fund established by Betty's grandson Josh, that assists local cancer patients.
