"Dick"
Horseheads: Age 81, passed away, on Thursday, August 9, 2012 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center after a brief illness. Dick was born in Ithaca, a son of Douglas, Sr. and Marguerite (Yaple) Stone. In addition to his parents Dick is predeceased by brothers, Douglas, Jr. and Thomas Stone; sister Judith Tilton; grandchildren, Brett, Rileigh and Charles. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Gwendolyn Marquart Stone; sons and daughters-in-law, Richard J. and Deborah Stone, Horseheads, Thomas L. and Kerry Stone, Elmira, Jeffrey W. and Tamara Stone, Nellysford VA; grandchildren, Amber, Shane, Brendan, Siobhan, Ayla and Delaney Stone; great grandson Tyler Stone; sisters and brothers-in-law, Patricia Darling, Dorothy and Bill Benedict, Susan and Harold Mix all of Ithaca; brother and sister-in-law, John and Helen Stone, Ithaca; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Clair and Nora Marquart, Big Flats. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews. Dick spent over 35 years as an insurance professional. Dick was an active person and passed that love onto his children and grandchildren. He was a founder of the Twin Tier Amateur Hockey Association. An avid golfer, he had been a board member and vice president of the New York State Golf Association and had been a long time member of the Corning Country Club. In addition to his passion for golf Dick loved all outdoor activities. He was a lifetime member of Fur, Fin and Feather. Dick enjoyed coaching both golf and hockey. He also enjoyed attending the activities involving his children and grandchildren. Dick was a member of the New York State Professional Insurance Agents Association and a lifetime member of the Horseheads Elks Lodge #2297.
Family and friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W. Water St., on Wednesday, August 15, 2012 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, August 16, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Mary Our Mother Church, Horseheads. Committal prayers and interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations in Dick's memory may be made to a charity of one's choice.
