Of Elmira, surrounded by her loving family, was called to be with Our Lord on April 25, 2018. Angeline "Ange" was born in Hornell, NY, the daughter of the late Frank and Louise DiVito DiNardo. Angeline was a graduate of St. Anne's Grammar School and Hornell High School. She also graduated from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing affiliated with Canisius College in Buffalo, NY. She worked at Mt. Sinai Hospital in NYC for 10 years where she was a night supervisor for the semi-private pavilion. She married Dominic Sgro on April 26, 1958 and they moved to Elmira in 1961. They were happily married for 60 years. They owned Sgro's Restaurant with Dominic's brother Tony and his wife Lucy from 1967 until 1977 when Angeline went back to nursing. She worked at St. Joseph's Hospital for 8 years before retiring. On December 8, 1992, the Divine Mercy Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration Chapel at St. Casimir's Church was opened when Fr. Gene Weis was the pastor. Angeline and her sister, Rose Marie McLaughlin, founded the chapel with the assistance of Fr. Joseph DeLuca, a Missionary Priest of the Blessed Sacrament who opened adoration chapels throughout the country. Angeline and her sister Rose Marie were head coordinators and divisional leaders for the chapel. In 1997, Angeline became the national secretary for Fr. DeLuca and worked for him for 12 years. The Divine Mercy Chapel at St. Casimir's Church, with the help of Our Lord, is still ongoing. Angeline was also invested as a member of the Dominican Laity Order of Preachers on May 12, 1998. In addition to her parents, Ange is predeceased by her brother Michael DiNardo and her sister Lucy DiNardo Sgro. Angeline is survived by her husband of 60 years, Dominic J. Sgro; three daughters and their families: Mary Angela and John Mendonca of Hanceville, AL, and their four children Maria Regina St. George and her husband, Nathan of Newport, VT and their 2 children Damien and Anthony; Rachel Mendonca, Michael Mendonca, and Francis Mendonca of Hanceville, AL: Dr. Madonna M. and Jose A. Santos of Suffield, CT and their three children Maria Fatima Santos of Berkeley, CA, Ana Maria Santos of Cambridge, MA and Mario Santos of Portland, ME: Martha Anne and Jason Macari of Cumberland, RI and their four children Jaimie Neveu and her husband Jay and their daughter Liliana, Micah Macari, Joshua Macari, and Mary Macari of Cumberland, RI; sister and brother-in-law Rose Marie and Gerald McLaughlin of Elmira, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Antonio and Dorothy Sgro of Elmira, sisters-in-law Josephine Sgro of Wellsville, OH, June Sgro of Chester, WV, Beatie Sgro of Beaver, PA, and Annette LaVack DiNardo of Rochester; along with several nieces and nephews. Friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, 502 West Water St., Elmira, on Friday, May 4, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Casimir's Church in Elmira on Saturday, May 5, 2018 at 8:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial at St. Ann's Church in Hornell will follow at 11:30 a.m. Angeline will be buried at St. Mary's Cemetery in Hornell. In lieu of flowers, it was her wish that Memorial Masses be requested for her soul.
