Obituary of H. James Cassidy

Age 77, of Waneta Lake, formerly of Elmira, passed away on Wednesday, March 28, 2018, surrounded by his loving family. Jim was born February 12, 1941, son of the late Herman E. and Marjorie O'Brien Cassidy. In addition to his parents he is also predeceased by his brother, Patrick J. Cassidy, and sister, Sharon Lalor. Jim is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Linda Bleaking Cassidy; sons, with their families, Sean P. and Cheryl Cassidy of Pine City, with son, Phillip; Mark J. and Soni Cassidy of Manalapan, NJ with sons, Rowan and Dylan; brothers, George E. Cassidy of Merritt Island, FL, John Cassidy of Cleveland, OH; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Daniel J. and Barbara Bleaking of Murphy, NC; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Mary Cassidy, with Ray Harko, of The Villages, FL, Barbara Cassidy of Cleveland OH, Ellen and Paul Payne of Liverpool, NY; along with several nieces and nephews. Jim was a U.S. Army veteran. A U.S. Postal worker, he retired after 31 years of service. Active in many local clubs, Jim was a member of the American Legion Post #1208 and the Montour Falls Moose Club. He was a long time member and past-president of both the John J. Lee Division of the Ancient Order of Hibernians and the Elmira Eagles Club. Jim was a long time communicant of St. Mary's Church, Elmira, currently a communicant of St. Stanislaus Church in Bradford NY. A baseball fan, Jim was an avid Detroit Tigers fan. He loved the special times spent with his children and grandchildren. Friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W. Water Street on Monday, April 2, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A prayer service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at 9:45 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m., St. Mary's Church, 224 Franklin Street, Elmira. Full military honors will then take place at Woodlawn National Cemetery. A special thank you to Sean, Cheryl and Phillip Cassidy, Barb Bleaking, Marlene Baiz and CareFirst for their help and care for Jim. Officers and members of the Ancient Order of Hibernians will meet at McInerny Funeral Home on Monday, April 2, 2018, 7:00 p.m., to conduct a service for our brother, Jim.
