Obituary of James P. Schiefen

Age 55, of Painted Post, passed away unexpectedly of natural causes, at home on Monday, February 5, 2018. Jim was born in Elmira, son of the late Joseph J. and Emma Lou (Mittelstadt) Schiefen. He was also predeceased by his infant sister Catherine. Jim is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Jamie M. and Scott Sylvainus with their daughter Tessa of Bethlehem PA, Dr. Erica L. and Brad Shatara of Elmira; sons, Patrick C. Schiefen of Shanghai China and Jonathan J. Schiefen, U S Navy of Charleston SC; mother of his children Tracy Schiefen Canestaro of Elmira; siblings and their spouses Mary Ellen and Randy Avery of Bradenton FL, Joseph J., Jr. and Victoria Schiefen of Mooresville NC, Sharon and Larry Clark of Montour Falls, Barbara and David Sweet of Horseheads, Carl and Maren Schiefen of Big Flats, Charles and Kelly Schiefen of Mooresville NC; his aunt and godmother Reggie Dean of Elmira, NY. Also surviving are several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Jim was a graduate of Notre Dame High School and earned his Bachelor's Degree in accounting from Elmira College. Jim will be fondly remembered for his years of coaching and mentoring. His biggest legacy is his family and the love that he gave them. Family and friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W. Water St., Elmira, on Sunday, February 11, 2018 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held at the conclusion of calling hours. Private burial will take place at St. Peter and Paul's Cemetery.
