Obituary of Philip G. VanOsdol
Elmira - Age 87, of Elmira, NY died Saturday, December 30, 2017 in Milford, PA, surrounded by his loving family.
Born April 10, 1930 in High Point, NC, Phil was the son of the late Dwight Gary VanOsdol and the late Helen Housier Cox VanOsdol.
Indiana University alum and graduate in International Trade at Thunderbird, Phoenix, AZ, Philip proudly served during the Korean War (1952-54) in the U.S. Air Force, as 2nd Lieutenant Communications Officer at Narsarssuak Air Base, Greenland.
Philip married Elnora E. Huffmeyer in 1957, Napoleon, IN. Upon seeing Ellie for the first time, Phil announced to friends that he had just met the woman he was going to marry. Phil was a hopeful romantic.
Throughout his career in International Sales, Phil worked on four continents and in seventeen foreign countries.
Phil, was a musician, Eagle Scout and lifelong civil servant: Trustee/choir member of Christ United/New Beginnings Methodist Church, Co-founder of the Junior Achievement Elmira Chapter, Rotarian, Legionnaire, Elk and Scout Master.
Beloved Husband, Father, Uncle, and Grandfather, Phil was beloved, cherished and respected by all who knew him. He is survived by:

17 Grandchildren: Julia VanOsdol; Joshua, Jordan, Rachel, Jenny & Samuel VanOsdol; Daniel & Lia Hansen; Evan, Brianna, Alexis & Serena VanOsdol; Jeremy & Jason Block; Diona-Lynn Pronti, Madalynn Newcomer, Masen Thurber and great grandchild Acelynn Sullivan.
He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Visitation for both Ellie and Philip will be at McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W Water Street, Elmira, Monday, January 15, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A joint funeral service will be at New Beginnings Methodist Church, 300 E. Miller Street, Elmira, on Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. Interment for both will then take place at Woodlawn Cemetery. A U S Air Force veteran, military honors will be accorded Phil.
