Obituary of Catherine R. McLaughlin

Age 81, passed away peacefully at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center on Sunday, November 19, 2017. Cathy was born in Killingly CT, a daughter of Henri C. and Dora (Melanson) Richard. In addition to her parents, Cathy is predeceased by her husband Daniel J. McLaughlin, brother Joseph C. "Pete" Richard, sister Leonie Derito, brothers-in-law, Don Kent and Richard Reeder, sister-in-law Catherine "Kate" Bassney and niece Katie Kent. She is survived by her loving children, son Daniel Joseph McLaughlin (Dr. Shelia Cassidy) of Florida, daughter Michelle Niles (Rick) of Elmira, daughter Doreen McLaughlin (David Johnson) of Coraopolis PA; two beloved grandchildren, Nathan and Megan Niles, both of Elmira; siblings, Marianne Norton (Joseph) of Indian Trial NC, Henri J. "Hank" Richard (Ann) of Durham NH, Louise Kent of Rock Hill SC; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Ann Fennell (Matthias) of El Paso TX, Maynard "Mac" McLaughlin (Marilyn) of Shoreham VT, Sheila Reeder of Pittstown NJ, Richard Bassney of Rochester NY, Alice McLaughlin of Horseheads, and Elizabeth "Libby" Dolan (James) of Sayre PA; along with forty-one nieces and nephews. Cathy worked at several office jobs for various companies over the years and was the office manager for McLaughlin Roofing for many years. She was a long time communicant of Our Lady of Lourdes Church. A strong supporter of Catholic education, Cathy, along with her husband Dan, started the Holy Family Sweepstakes and they were on the original committee that started the OLL Festival. She was a longtime member of the Elmira Country Club and a member of their "hole in one" club. She and Dan enjoyed several winters in Florida where they were members of Heritage Palms Golf and Country Club of Fort Myers. Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Lourdes Church on Saturday, November 25, 2017 at 12:00 noon. Interment will take place at St. Peter and Paul's Cemetery. Those wishing may remember Cathy with a donation to either, Holy Family Catholic School, 421 Fulton Street, Elmira NY 14904 or Catholic Charities of Chemung & Schuyler Counties, 215 East Church Street, Elmira NY 14901. Cathy's family would like to thank all the caregivers at Bethany Manor, Arnot Ogden Medical Center and the Guthrie Clinic for their wonderful care. The family would also like to thank Drs. Roger Schenone and Pedro Gonzales.
