Obituary of James A. Pirozzolo

Horseheads: Age 74, passed away Sunday, February 1, 2015. Jim was born January 29, 1941, in Elmira, the son of Rose (Fabrizio) and Mariano Pirozzolo. He is predeceased by his siblings, Congetta Pabis, Joseph, Louis and Marion Pirozzolo, along with numerous in-laws. Jim is survived by his wife of 54 years Blanche (Savino) Pirozzolo; sons and their families, James A., II and Mary Pirozzolo of Horseheads with daughters, Katie Pirozzolo and Kara (Kyle) Mehnert; Jeffrey A. and Tracey Pirozzolo of Seneca Falls NY with children, Taylor, Gino and Luca Pirozzolo; great-grandson Elijah Mehnert; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws. Jim had a 27 year career as a Police Officer. The first couple of years were with the Elmira Police Department. He then joined his brother Lou working with the West Elmira Police Department. Jim and Lou were instrumental starting the West Elmira Parks and Recreation Program. He was a longtime active member of Blessed Sacrament Parish, St. Anthony's Church. For over 40 years Jim was one of the "go to guys" at the annual St. Anthony's Church Festival. For a number of years he served on the St. Peter & Paul's Cemetery Board of Directors. Jim enjoyed traveling and taking his family out to dinner. Friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W. Water Street, Elmira, on Wednesday, February 4, 2015 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Jim's Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, February 5, 2015 at 10:00 a.m., St. Patrick's Church. Interment and committal prayers will follow at St. Peter & Paul's Cemetery. Those wishing may remember Jim with a donation to Blessed Sacrament Parish, 1010 Davis Street, Elmira NY 14901. The Pirozzolo family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Rupik, his staff and the staff at Arnot Ogden Medical Center - ICU for the wonderful care given to Jim over the past several years.
