Obituary of Francis J. Smith

Elmira: Age 76, passed away peacefully at his home, on Thursday, January 8, 2015, after an extended illness. Fran was born in Elmira on December 22, 1938 a son of James P. and Loretta (Henderson) Smith. He is survived by his loving and cherished family, Maureen McManus Smith, his wife of 54 years; children, with their families, Peter Smith of New Hope PA and children, Brennan, Connor and Deven; Shaun and Sue Smith of Williamsport PA and children Patrick, Claire, Shaun, Mitchell and Lydia; Sheila and Dennis Regan of Southern Pines NC and children Ryan and Tess; James and Colleen Smith of Lake Barrington IL and children Declan and Caden; Bridget and Jeffrey Landis of Elkton MD and children, Declan, Lily Kate, Ronan, Jonah and Elijah; Megan and Larry Peacock of Annadale VA and children, Isis, Scarlett and Samuel; Paul Smith of Elmira; sister and brother-in-law Gail and Gene Kozemko of Elmira; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Terrence and Margaret McManus of Atlanta GA, Judy and Al Palinkas of Penn Yan, Michael and Teresa McManus of Elmira, Mary Lou McManus of Ithaca; along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Fran was retired from Moore Business Forms where he worked for over 30 years. Upon his retirement Fran was an active volunteer at the Samaritan Center. He was a long time communicant of Our Lady of Lourdes Church and was a member of the John J. Lee Division of the Ancient Order of Hibernians. Friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W. Water Street, Elmira on Wednesday, January 14, 2015 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A prayer service will be held there Thursday, January 15, 2015 at 9:15 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of Lourdes Church. Interment, with committal prayers, will then take place at St. Peter & Paul's Cemetery. Those wishing may remember Fran with a donation to either, Holy Family Catholic School, 421 Fulton Street, Elmira NY 14904 or Notre Dame High School, 1400 Maple Avenue, Elmira NY 14904.
