Age 96, a longtime resident of Elmira's Southside passed away peacefully at Woodbrook on Tuesday, September 2, 2014. Kay was born in Catlin NY on March 30, 1918, a daughter of George and Lois (Davenport) Rohan. She is predeceased by her husband Alexander C. Olszowy, Sr., son Robert C. Olszowy and grandson Jamie Lucas. Kay is survived by children, Ann K. Trahan of Vancouver WA, Alexander C. Olszowy, Jr. of Elmira NY, Kathleen M. Hunt with husband Jack of Dade City FL, and Joseph M. Olszowy of Crestview FL; sister Monta Rohan of Florida; 16 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren; along with numerous nieces and nephews. During WW II Kay worked at the Remington Rand. She later went to work for many years at St. Joseph's Hospital as a nurse's aide. Kay was a longtime active communicant at St. Mary's Church where she was a Girl Scout leader and bingo coordinator. Kay had been a foster mom for many children in the area. After retiring she volunteered at the Chemung County Nursing Facility. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting and crafts. Kay was always physically active which allowed her to live a long healthy life. Family and friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W. Water Street, on Friday, September 5, 2014 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A prayer service will be held there on Saturday, September 6, 2014 at 9:15 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, Elmira. Committal prayers and interment will follow at St. Peter & Paul's Cemetery. Flowers are gratefully declined.
