Age 93, formerly of 404 Hillview Drive, passed away Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at Bethany Manor. Joe was born in Lopez PA on May 30, 1920 the last surviving of 9 children to Andrew and Catherine (Chiklinski) Peworchik. He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Helen (Sheleman) Peworchik; children with their spouses, Joseph and Carol Peworchik, Spencerport NY, Pamela Bachert, Veteran NY, Kenneth and Kerry Peworchik, Horseheads, Wayne and Lisa Peworchik, Pine City; grandchildren, Julie (David) VanDeVoorde, Karen (Jeff) Wills, Michael Peworchik, Brian (Sue) Bachert, Brad Bachert, Brittney (Bill) Hornsby, Bridgett (Dan) Santarone, Tyler Peworchik, Jacqui Peworchik (with fiancé Adam Slayton), Marcus Peworchik, Kristin (Brian) Reed, Jason Peworchik; great grandchildren, Natalie, Nathan and Jake VanDeVoorde, Collin, Anya and Nolan Wills, Evan, Emma, Elly and Owen Bachert, Brent and Brendan Bachert, Gavin, Olivia and Greyson Hornsby, Mckenzie Santarone; sister-in-law Rose (Wilbur) Kocher, Benton PA. Joe was a U S Army veteran of WW II. He was part of the Normandy invasion and fought his way all through Europe. He was a 57 year communicant of St. Mary's Church. Joe was a union sheet metal worker with Local 112 for 39 years. He was a solid family man and his most enjoyable time was spent with his grandchildren. Friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W. Water Street, on Friday, March 28, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, March 29, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, Elmira. Committal prayers, with military honors, will follow at St. Peter & Paul's Cemetery.
